First off I'm a computer science kinda guy so I really know nothing about this stuff. With that said, here's the situation.

I found a company getting rid of their SX-200 system with quite a few phones. I think I can recoup my costs in the phones which is what I was in the market for but then I'm starting to see the system may be worth much more than I thought. Is there anyway for me to test if it still works? It was working before it was removed from service so maybe I'll just have to go with that but I don't know a fair price to sell it for.

Any guidance would be helpful.

Thanks

Patrick.

WITH no experience in the telecom field and ESPECIALLY the Mitel line of pbx's, my suggestion would be to find a mitel dealer in your area.

Heres how I would test it.
I would get about 40 feet of rope, tie it securly around the cabinet and use the handset cords to tie the phones to the same rope. This will give you good connection from the cabinet to the phones. Now tie the other end of the rope to the front of your boat and you know the rest. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]
No really look for manuals (try the Tab above) and jump right in get you hands dirty. Good luck with your new toys.

Thanks guys or the advice and your sense of humor [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]. It does come with a boat load of manuals so I can go through them to try to figure something out. A friend suggested I can make sure it powers on and do some calling between the extensions to test the phones and console.

I should get my hands on all the equipment Friday to see how good/bad it is.

Thanks for you input and sarcasm [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

You would probably get more for the equipment on E-Bay by selling the phones.

Paul is right. You should get a quote from a reseller then put it on ebay with a reserve of that quote.

Mitch it is a good system and its big. I have worked on a few and found one left in a office last month. Asked the customer moving in the office where they would like me to put it when removing for there system, she said what is it can you throw it away. Well sure I can. I threw it away [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com] at my local refurb guy and he threw away 2 Telrads to me.

As an old Mitel tech myself I always liked the system and yes the cabinet is somewhat of an anchor but if you care to resell the system and maintain it I suggest that you first look at each of the superset cards and look for swelling of the electrolytic capacitors. If they are swolen then they will create additional noise and crosstalk. This is a condition created by a power supply problem with too much voltage which can be tweaked without too much trouble if you have the right tools for it.
