I have a DSUII w/ sw 5C and a Debut VM. Two weeks or so ago, the rings on station 10 (Impact 8024S) stopped working properly. On any call (internal, transfer from voicemail, or outside line) that should ring at station 10, only a single short burst is sounded, then its silent. All other stations seem to be working properly. I could not find any system, station, Voicemail or phone setting that would make a phone do that. So, I ended up copying the COS and SDIAL settings to a laptop, master clearing the DSUII, then recopying the settings from the laptop back to the DSUII.
That solved the problem - Station 10 worked normally - 2 bursts on internal calls, 2 bursts then ringing on external calls transferred to the station, etc. But after another week went by, the same symptom has returned - Station 10 only gets 1 short burst on any call.
Tonight, I intend to copy, master clear, then recopy to get it to work again. But does anyone have any advice for what could be going on and how I should proceed?
Thanks, Andy

Did you check station 10 programming ?
You seem to have done a lot of extra steps. Not a Comdial expert, but look real close at station 10 and what features you have assigned to it, or should i say what feature someone may be implementing.

Yes, I checked each and every feature on the phone itself. I output an ASCII text file of the COS settings on a laptop and checked that Station 10 matched Station 12. I unplugged the phone to let the phone reset itself.
The master clear was a last resort. And the fact that it fixed the problem with the same settings loaded, suggests to me that it is not a settings problem, but some sort of hardware fault, database corruption, or possible some interaction with the Debut Voicemail that takes a few days to show itself.

when the phone is idle, press the vol up to turn the ringer back on. What you describe is exactly what happens when a ringer is turned all the way down.

OK it's fixed, but oh boy, do I feel dumb. Mark, you were right on. The user at ext 10 had turned the phone ringer volume down. I thought I checked for that early on when the user reported this problem to me, but obviously not. I really did check every other setting and feature that I could find. Thanks for your help! Andy

#1 - The volume control turned all the way down. #2 - Message Waiting lamp got turned on. #3 - Phone plugged into data network jack.

AndyL,
I am curious to know where the idea of D/L'g the DB, defaulting the system and U/L'g the DB came from. Comdial/Vertical technical support by any chance? This was their recommended approach to almost every DX-80 support inquiry we made as an authorized dealer a few years ago.
Of course to us, as seasoned telephony professionals, this never made any sense as this did not isolate the trouble. Usually, it only pushed it off till the same set of circumstances that created it originally were repeated thus recreating it.
P.S. OK it's fixed, but oh boy, do I feel dumb. No need to "feel dumb"! As with anything, even on our best days, those of us that have been doing this for years and years at times forget to look at the obvious and/or make stupid mistakes.
P.P.S. Welcome to the board!
