I need to create 5 virtual mailboxes in a corporate office voice mail,(mailboxes that have no physical ext). I have created the mailboxes, but they are not recognized in he dial by name directory. The voice mail is attached to a DSUII. Also the voice mail does not turn on message waiting indicator. any help greatly appreciated.

If the mailboxes have no physical extension, how are they supposed to light a message waiting indicator? If you are referring to ALL physical phones, well then that is a different story. You could have several problems causing this. First, you need to make sure that the when the first time setup of the voicemail was done, that the proper PBX type was selected. If a system other than the DSUII was selected, serial integration will not work properly. You can always reset the vmail and select setup to re do the process. You won't lose any system greetings or mailbox recordings...no worries there. Another issue may be that the serial cable going from the Corporate office to the DSUII is not plugged in/not plugged into the correct ports/or is bad. Its been a while, but I believe the DB9 serial adapter connects to voicemail serial port 1 and the plug on the other end connects to port 2 on the DSUII KSU. (I could be wrong here...its been a few years)
If the boxes don't have a physical phone, set the mailbox type as "no transfer". As far as being in the dial by name directory, you need to make sure you do 2 things. #1- The mailbox has to have a name entered. Whether you do this through remote programming, OR the user goes through the first time setup on the box to enter the letters of their name. #2- The mailbox must have, at the very least, a NAME recorded in the setup process.
Hope that helps.

dial by name was an issue with the version of voicemail. It was a windows NT VM and had to run scandbnt at the vm prompt and then rebooth the system. Thanks for assist. Does anyone have the pinout configuration for the serial integration between the vm and dsuII?
I see in the customers user manual that they can forward calls off site. I am not able to do this, does it have to be enabled in programming?

Do you have a programming cable for the DSUII? If so then all you need is a db9F to db9F with 2&3 reversed added to a programming cable.

CFOS is always a programmable option, not a standard enabled feature. Beware the usual caveats with enabling CFOS though...
