Hello, I have a Comdial DSUII with a Debut voicemail. Some messages left by outside callers get cut off before they finish speaking. Also, when some inside users record their greetings, they are cut off before finishing. The time before cutoff varies from 10-30 sec. If an inside user keeps trying to rerecord their greeting, after 10-15 tries it will usually allow them to complete the recording completely (perhaps 40 seconds). Other users do not seem to have this problem.
Max length of message is set to 60 sec. Parameter 5015 "seconds of silence before VP system ends recording" is 4. Parameter 5016 "seconds of non-silence before VP system ends recording" is also 4. Do these settings make sense?
Is there something else I can try to get messages recorded more consistantly?
Thank you, AndyL

Try kicking the message length in the COS up to 2 minutes. 1 minute sure isn't very much time.
Some of my customers have requested the max be set at 3 minutes--which we have done for them. So far, no compaints.
I'm not super familiar with the Debut---can y0ou defrag it?? If you can, I'd do that, too.

I rechecked my system. Greeting length was 60 sec, message length was 240 sec. I increased the greeting to 120, but both messages and greetings are sometimes cut off way before the 60 or 240 sec limit.
I increased the seconds of silence and seconds of non-silence to 8, but I don't really understand what seconds of non-silence means. Should that be longer?

Seconds of nonsilence would be like a steady dialtone indicating the call did not fully disconnect. Your inability to record internal greetings could be as simple as background noise picked up from the handset. Next time someone has an internal record issue have them record from a different quieter location. See if that helps...see it frequently.

I have had several of the Debuts, as well as Small Office and Lites that did the same thing. In fact everytime I called 2 of my sites, and tried to leave a message, it would cut me off. I was driving down the road, cellphone with speakerphone kit. The ladders on my roof coupled with the wind noise were being detected as same sound, and hanging up.
I had another site that has a "EVENT SCHEDULE" mailbox. She had a lot to put in there, and was talking really fast. It cut her off mid recording. Same scenario. We believe that it was detecting her fast monotone as same sound. Conferenced her with me and the VM, and told her to record it in a normal manner, VOILA, it worked.
I have changed the same sound to I believe (been a while) to 40 seconds, both sites have good disconnect signalling, so hangup hasn't been a problem. Cured the problems with both.

I have seen this on several Debuts in the field. Two have the exact symptoms you mentioned. Per Comdial/King we upgraded the software on both, one was fixed for good....the other worked for about two months and then started to act up again. The customer ended up taking it out of service in the end. Comdial/King was of no help after the initial upgrade recommendation. We played around with the settings for message length, silence, non-silence. COS...everything you could think of. We switched out the Flash card with another, then a new Flash card with new software and a different Debut unit...all with the same results at that location. We tested it with our own recordings and could duplicate it on occasion; speed did not seem to matter in this particular case. Could be something in the DSU-II, but the customer ended up changing the system out before troubleshooting any more.

I changed the sec of silence to 8 and seconds of non-silence to 40. But, I found that the seconds of silence parameter determines when VM stops recording messages, but not when it stops recording greetings. Greetings still stop after 4 seconds of silence (as well as randomly cut off as described in first post). So, tweaking the seconds of silence and non-silence may help for recorded messages, but not the recording of greetings.
The one user who has the most trouble has tried recording his greeting from another phone extension and it also cuts off. Maybe we'll try to call in from an outside phone and see if a completely different environment will be better for his line (although others in the same office have no trouble with greetings).
Finally, if nothing else works, I'll delete his mailbox and recreate it to see if that helps.
Thanks for the replies. Andy

Hi all...
I'm experiencing the exact same issue as was stated by others...and I'm at a loss on how to proceed. Additionally, our local Comdial authorized technician is also unsure of what is causing the problem and of how to proceed...other than suggesting the purchase a new phone system...and that's not gonna happen with today's economic environment.
The issue is as everyone has stated. The message is cut-off at various lengths (sometimes as short as 2 or 3 seconds...sometimes up to 12 to 15 seconds) and has no pattern or common recurrence as it happens on various extensions at various times.
If anyone here has ANY suggestions that I could pass along to our Comdial tech, I'd GREATLY appreciate it.

GBullard welcome to Sundance Tech-Talk. Please start a new thread for your question, this thread is almost a year old. You will need to complete your profile to receive help. I am sure we can solve the problem without making a new phone system purchase. Thank you!
