I think I have an 8SLI card. I already have two extensions that are using analog phones. This system just fell into my lap. Trying to learn all I can about it so I can take care of most problems. Is there something in programming that needs to be set up for that extension to take an analog phone?

There really isn't any programming required to make an analog extension work.Just make sure that if you want it to ring then set it up in the ringing group for the lines. Also you could check that it has access to outside lines as required.By default it should be able to access all the lines.Dial 9 to get a trunk(or LCR) or dial access a specific line like 701,702 etc.

I plugged it into a regular extension and it doesn't work. I just get a hum. What could be the deal?

You can't plug an analog phone into a digital extension port.Reread what I told you you need for analog ports above. It has to be an analog port.
