We are using a 4-port SVMi-8e voicemail on an iDCS 500. Yesterday I had several users complain that messages they had previously listened to and deleted had suddenly reappeared. One person went from no messages waiting to three, but in reality two had been previously deleted earlier in the day and one was new. If it was just one person complaining of this, I would chalk it up to user error, but two complaints gave me pause.

Anyone else experience this before?

You sure they aren't using the undelete feature by accident?

No, I can't be sure they didn't undelete, but this system was just installed and at this point most people only know about listening and deleting. I have trouble believing they managed to navigate to a feature that they probably don't know (yet) they have. Then again, we all manage to surprise ourselves every now and then ....

This is a result of bidding out software programming. Cheap is better than correct.

The good news is that the vm runs a routine (usually in the early morning) that would get rid of those messages. If they are gone the next day, then the software just has another glitch.

I forget the MMC for setting the VM reset time, but you can look it up and change it. If you are on site and have deleted messages diappearing, you can set the reset time for 5 minutes from current and see if they are gone after it resets.

why talk trash about a product you are a dealer for why not just help if you can??

Tom
is the phone displaying the total new messages count eg you have 3 messages or you have 1 message and they are just hearing the old ones again?

there is no mmc for changing the reset time its done via your pc and its called a maint schedule, this schedule allows you to adjust the time it happens (3am default)and delete already deleted messages or not. the only mmc you could use to reboot and change any mailbox settings is 740 but this only allows the vm to read what the system has listed in mailboxes and ext numbers for the vm it self.

good luck and let us know what you find.

Just an update. A user showed me his phone today and a message that he has deleted four times now after it has reappeared three times, usually after about a half hour after he last deleted it. Strange. He's been pressing 3 to delete every time and is told, "You have no more messages" or whatever. This is a new thing. He has successfully deleted messages otherwise, and is not a let's-push-buttons-and-see-what-happens kind of guy.

Tom,

What version of software is on the SVMI 4e? Has anybody looked at port activity to see what the system thinks is going on when it brings the messages back?

Could it be a bad DTMF receiver? He presses the dial pad button but the message isn't really deleted because the SMVI-4 doesn't hear the correct tone?

I don't know if there is a test for the DTMF receivers, tech support would be able to confirm or deny.

Could you see that activity on a computer attached to the SMVI-4 or could you see that in Hyperterminal off of the system? Could you see the digits he dialed? I don't know if only real calls show up on HT or internal ones to voicemail appear.

Have you tried swapping SMVI-4 units (which takes time to reprogram, I understand that) and see if the problem continues?

I've just had this occur on our Cadence system. Voice mails from 2 weeks ago suddenly reappeared (so I'm told) on a particular extension. As it turns out, the extension's voice mail is configured to purge messages after 1 day. I deactivated the mailbox and then reactivated it, hoping it would do something.
