Hello.

I have a lot of SVMI-8E question, if you could please help me out if you know the answer to any of the questions.

1. Does the SVMI-8E automatically have the Email gateway feature installed or is this extra?

2. I read in some post that 5 email accounts come standard but it cost more for the rest. Is this true?

3. If you are recording a phone line, do you have to have a progressive tone or is this optional?

4. Can the SVMI-8E have the recorded phone call being e-mail to you or is it only stored in the voicemail system?

5. Can the flashcard be upgraded with a standard Copy and Paste on a flashcard reader?

6. What the storage hours on this? I heard it was only 10 hours?

7. Are there any negatives on the Samsung SVMI vs a 3rd party voicemail system?

8. Does the Voicemail ports have assigned extension numbers or be grouped (MMC 601) like with 3rd party external voicemail systems that use SLI lines?

9. Can I call directly into the voicemail and dial an extension directly without having any voicemail prompts / directories, etc…

In others words, can I call directly into the Voicemail system and just press an extension number to be instantly transferred to that extension? I want to bypass the receptionist and talk to different people at the company. This is how I do it now with my 3rd party VM system now. I assigning a DID number from my T1 line into the VM extensions group number (505 assigned in MMC601) which lets me call directly in.

I’m just wondering if I can do the same thing with the Samsung SVMI-8 as I can with the cheap 3rd party VM system.

Thanks for your help.

Instead of answering all of your questions I will simply say get your hands on a general description of the svmi-8E and all your questions will be answered. If you can't find one online give me your email and I'll send you one.

So many questions smile
Ok I'll try to answer
1 &2) 5 email licenses come standard yes ,if you need more you can buy an unlimited license
3)If you're recording a phone call then you can use a record button
4)I would assume that since a recorded call is a message that it can be emailed
5)I believe the software is "locked" so it may not accept a bigger flash card
6)Its a 128 Mb flash so yes around 10-12 hours. You can delete the optional French and Spanish prompts if you don't need them on the system and it gives you about an extra 30 minutes per prompt set that you delete
7)The SVMi will give you features like call record, display interaction because it is integrated in the backplane versus an inband interface
8)The voicemail ports all get an extension number and put into a voicemail group ie 529 but the group number can change depending on the system it's installed in
8)Well usually when you call into the voicemail there would be a greeting but you can dial at any time. The nice feature of the SVMi if your internal and want to just leave a message for another user you simply press #+ DS key or extension number and leave a message
aIf you phone is ringing you can push the # key and the caller goes into your mailbox immediately
10) Wait there is no question 10 smile

Wow, this sound great.

Let me see if I understand how this works.

1. MMC 714 to route 5475 to Group 529(voicemail group)

2. Dial 817-555-5475 and it will ring directly into 529 when the voicemail will answer

3. Dial extension "312" and I will be transferred directly to extension 312.

4. Extension 312 phone will ring and display " Transferred from Voicemail" or whatever name you have assigned Group 529 using MMC 602.

I guess this could complete the process.

So the system is automatically setup to transfer directly to an extension from the main menu?

Does the idcs 500 tech manual have all the information needed for setting up the SMVI-8E or does it have a separate manual?

Thanks.

The 500 manual does not have anything on the svmi8. you need the svmi e series manual for that. Yes the voicemail system comes out the box ready to route calls from the main menu. Though it can do so much more than that. There are a lot of qualified techs out there that could get this going for you and show you a lot more.

I must agree,
It is important for the voicemail system to be setup properly and well worth paying a tech to do it.This isn't a do it yourself project easily done even with a manual. There are many things any manual won't tell you.

Yeah, I'm sure there are all sorts of tricks that the book does not say that is learned from experience.

For right now I need to know if its even worth replacing the existing voicemail system with the Samsung. Can you please let me know if the Direct extension dialing from the main menu possible? I use this feature a lot on my current piece of junk 3rd party voicemail system and I need to know if the SVMI-8 has the same ability. I don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Can you:
A. Call directly into the VM system
B. Dial the person extension
C. Get Transferred directly to their extension (not mailbox)

What will their phone display? Will it look like a call coming from the VM extension or Extension Group name? (MMC 104 vs MMC 602)

This is how its currently setup:

1. MMC 714 to route 5475 to Group 529(voicemail group)
2. Dial 817-555-5475 and it will ring directly into Extension Group 529 when the voicemail will answer
3. Dial extension "312" and I will be transferred directly to extension 312.
4. Extension 312 phone will ring and display whatever name you have assigned Group 529 using MMC 602.

Does that pretty much sum up the direct extension dialing on the SVMI-8?

Thanks.

YES you can directly call an extension. As for what will the phone display depends on if they have caller id.A normal display will show a call transferred from ext xxx.
