Help! We inherited a Prostar 816 system with the office we leased. We do not have a manual or anything, and the guy who set it up for us was a crook and we can't call him for help.

The problem is, one extension appears to be "stuck." The phone just make a bunch of racket through the speaker, and it appears as "busy" to the other extensions. We tried swapping out the keysets, but the problem is the same, so it must be in the system. Does anyone know what the issue might be? Can someone reasonably savvy fix it? Or, can you refer me to someone familiar with this system in the Dallas area.

Many thanks!

has it worked before, if it hasn't then the problem is that it isn't hooked up right, either the jack isn't or at the 66 block or where the termination takes place at by the phone system. if it has worked then it may be a bad port.

On the left side of the control unit, take off the two screws.

You will see jacks labeled STN 1, STN 2, etc.

When you lift the receiver at the "bad" phone a light will come on within the two rows of 8 buttons.

The top left light is STN 1, the bottom left light is STN 8, etc.

Plug a known good phone into the matching STN X on the left side of the control unit.

If the phone works perfectly then the control unit is fine.

Then plug the known good phone into the jack that has the "bad" phone.

If the known good phone works, the "bad" phone is indeed bad, must be repaired or replaced.

If the known good phone worked at the control unit and not at the jack you have a wiring problem with the cable or the jack.

This is child's play but it may be harder for an adult because they've learned they could screw things up.
