Hello.
I need help diagnosing a problem with an SVMI-8E.
When you call the voicemail ports, it immediately sends the call to the warning designation. When you call from an outside line, it just rings and rings (never picks up the call)
When I reboot the SVMI-8E, I never see the hard drive light flashing.
The "LAT" and "LRT" lights are both solid green however the "HD" light never flashes.
Is there a way to tell exactly what is wrong with it? Perhaps the hard drive crashed, etc?
I can see the ports in MMC 724 so I guess the phone system can see the card however I can't call into the ports.
If someone could please give me some steps to troubleshoot or any information about this, I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks for your help.

It sounds like you have covered the initial steps in troubleshooting. Have you ever connected via a laptop to see where the system gets to in the boot process? If not, I would suggest calling a vendor who is Samsung certified. What it sounds like to me is an issue that sometimes happens. The VM has a corrupt file and won't start until it has a good copy. A certified tech will be able to reload the backup file, and system should come back up.

So you think there is a corrupt file and this will case the SVMI not even read the hard drive on bootup process? It will never even flash or anything? Is that normal?
I have tried connecting via crossover LAN cable with HYPERTERM. I have been able to connect all the time however since the problem I have not been able to connect at all? To see how far it gets, I will need the special serial cable not a crossover LAN cable right?
If there is a corrput file, do I need an exact Image of the hard drive like a ISO image or can you just load the corrupted file back on the existing hard drive?
If you could please let me know, I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks for your help.

You are correct it sounds like the drive crashed the cable is straight through if you have it hooked up to a switch as far as programming goes. But again I have to imagine that if the drive wont light up then either the power has becom disconnected from the drive or its dead.

Samsung idcs500 system. It worked fine for several months before this problem happen.
Can anyone tell me what file format the SVMI-8 hard drive normally uses? NTFS,FAT32, etc...
I do have about a 10-12MB folder with these files inside which I think are the operating system for the SVMI. The question is can I just put them an identical laptop hard drive and have the SVMI-8E boot from it or does it have to be created from a Image file?
Version 2.2 of software.

No you cannot do that. Samsung has special process for writing the system files to the drive.
you are experiencing a problem that I have been battling at one of my customers sites for a long time now. I have yet to find the cause of it, but it is not a file corruption. The svmi doesnt support LAN communication until the svm program is acutally running on it, and If yours is like mine, its gettnig stuck during the boot process. It stops before it even reads the hard disk during POST, which makes me beleive that it is either A) something in the system which is not allocating the card enough power or B) something bad with the components of the card itself.
Power your KSU off and back on again and it should come back, at least for a few days.
Contact your dealer and get it replaced. Samsung will replace cards with this issue regardless of warranty.

It is always frozen until the KSU is reset? So when you reset your SVMI8, the hard drive light does not even flash once right? Thanks for the Advice, I guess this is a known issue with Samsung. Thanks for your help.

To connect to a SVMI system with a serial cable. You will a straight through cable with f/f adapter. Check to see if you can get to the c:/ prompt! If you can there maybe hope!

correct. The problem will not be fixed by a svmi reboot, only a full ksu reboot.
