I have kept an DSUII J0816 system with software 5C and a Debut 2 port voicemail operating for about 8 years. At his point, we could use an expansion to more than 16 extensions. 2 questions:
1. If I buy a JM0408 expansion module, and install it on the J0816, will I also need new software or does the J0816 somehow recognize the new hardware and just start using them?
2. Is the 50 pin connector-to-66block that I need for the JM0408 a standard off-the-shelf item or a custom thing that I have to make? Is there a name for it?
(Yes, I am not a professional phone person, but an IT guy who got assigned the task of maintaining the phone system for our 13 person company.)
Thanks, Andy

1. It will recognize it on a reboot.

2. Male or female 25 pair amphenol connector.

Good Luck. Get an installation manual if you don't already have one.

I believe the DSU (including the expansion module) requires a female connectorized ("Amphenol") cable. Are you adding any lines, or just stations? The module also adds the capability for 4 additional outside lines, which connect the same way as the main cabinet (modular plugs).

I agree, get an installation manual. I also recommend pulling a backup of the database and speeddial database before doing any work on it.

I think the expansion module has a ribbon cable
attached to the exp module which plugs into the basic ksu.

Thanks for the info and advice. I learned that I need a JM408 (not JM0408), no new software, and I can buy the 50 pin Amphenol-to-66Block as a prewired set (one manufacturer is Dynacom).

I am just adding stations, not lines. I have the manual. I have backups of the system setup and speeddial directory and I always make new backups before and after any changes.
