If I am traveling and you call me, you will hear several clicks over a period of time before you hear ringback. This happens as the network searches for me. Connection can take 20/30 seconds or more before you hear ringback and I hear ringing. Sometimes you can ring me just as quick as a land phone. It's not consistant.

Nextel is especially bad for that kind of delay ("please hold while the Nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located").

Aside from the valid issue that Larry brings up, could you forward a virtual extension to a cell, and then have the virtual extension monitor the ringing of the desk set?

You can forward a virtual extension to a cell but the Samsung system can not perform a screened transfer on it's own. The Svmi can though, which is why I used it to do the same as I explained above. Cell phone service and ring times are never perfect and will most likely never be in our lifetime. Any time you throw a cell phone into the mix of a key system or PBX your going to find issues. You'll get it working perfect call after test call, then a week later you'll be going back because the customer says it didn't work for a couple of calls. Been there before. It's not an exact science for sure.

Thanks everyone. Finding the cell phone is a big key to this. All cell phones especially Nextel are noted for delayed ringing or no service at all.

I think thats one of those features that you sell a customer and pay for with service for ever.

My thoughts exactly and I really don't get the whole point. Why even have voice mail. As far as selling the feature this is one of those that a salesman loves and an installer hates since they get "the egg in the face" :bang: when it does not work.

I'm gonna tell the customer that I can make it work but not dependable and I can't garanty it. Like I said before I'm not gonna jump thru hoops for a system this small. I could loose a lot of money real fast if I'm not carefull on this.

Tadiran does this. They also supervise the call to the Cell phone after answer so you can transfer the call within the system, or as you arrive at your desk press 2 digits and it rings your desk phone.

Just to throw into this one.

It's something we're looking at developing for the next major feature upgrade, but it could be a year or so out.

We're basically looking to do what the Tadiran does but with a few tweaks.

Personally I'm in the "why bother" column on it, I just use the SVMi Find Me feature. it isn't simultaneous ringing, but I figure my callers can wait a few seconds more if they really want to talk to me...

I used this a lot back when I was a NOC supervisor... on a Nortel DMS-500 it is called SIMRING and I used it with a Nextel cell phone. It worked great, there was about a 1 ring delay between the time my desk phone rang before my cell phone rang but that was useful because then I could grab my desk phone before my cell rang...but If I was away from my desk I had a choice... walk back or grab it on the cell. another benefit (to me) calls went to my cell phone voicemail if I didn't answer.

I don't know why you guys don't get this especially for customers who are out and about.
:: The user is more available laugh !! (doesn't matter where he is - he can either answer the desk phone or mobile.
:: You can have your DDI ring your extn and cell phone. Most GSM the delay is around 6 seconds.
:: The user can transfer and conference etc from his cell phone.
:: The user doesn't need to check if he has VM, the GSM operator sends the VM notification as a SMS.
:: You set the desk phone to goto VM on busy or no answer (longer than the GSM VM)
:: If you are on a call desk phone or cell phone, you get busy lamp - standard pairing.
:: In some countries GSM calls within the group are free, so you can also call into the GSM gateway to get DISA.
