Hello Peoples, I'm looking for a way to remote access a few svmi-8e series vw's that are on the customers LAN's running VM to E-mail FWD already. These sites are 2-3 hours drive & we want to help our customers cut their costs. I would rather not go the old US robotics modem way. Thanks for any help!

If you can get a remote IP connection to their network you can set-up hyperterminal (or other terminal interface of your choice) to connect to the IP address of the SVMi-8E.
Programming would look and work just like the serial connection.

Thanks Hi-C, do I need the site(s) to enable any Port FWDing ? Some are high security locations.

Yes you will and it may become an issue if they are as secure as you say they are.

Sticking my neck out here as I am not a voicemail guru but could you not have a Static IP that they could plug in at your request and unplug when you call and say you are done?
If the place is so secure they could probably afford a static IP.

Yes, I could set a second connection w/static IP, but the VM is set to all messages to the E-mail servers. I risk lost transmissions when the server would be unpluged & the secondary is inserted. Alot of traffic on this VM. Thanks WRichey & Bunnie

That will not work anyway as you would need to change the IP of the VM every time you moved the connection. Nice try though

A maybe perhaps, is anyone working in the facility very late at night. The customer would have the choice of having an employee go into programming when you call, change the IP, let you work and change it back. As annoying as some would find that, it would be less expensive for the customer than a long drive you would still have all the messages on the voicemail if not sent out by email.
If you scheduled a session, the employer could do a mass e-mail to tell people that from xx PM to XX AM they may miss emails but to check the v VM.
As foolish as anyone may think this is, it should work fine and multiple trips of many hours each can be a billable figure that they would choose to be a fraction rather than a whole and you don't want to drive their either.
A bit of inconvenience but if you put the IP address MMC in MMC200, you would not have to give them technician level access.

Just have the network admin forward port 23 to the vm ip address then from your remote computer set up hyper-terminal for TCP/IP and type in the static WAN ip of the customer.
