Just the forwarding of that one port is going to open a can of worms. Although it is a way to do this and keep the status quo. You may find resistance from the customer. These days security is everything to the IT folks and the customers they work for.

I don't know too many people who hack Samsung VM systems.

Depending on the type of router the customer is using... they can create a VPN account for you. You connect with the VPN Client and you now have access to their network. If it's as secure as you say, they might be running Cisco. If they are... it's really easy to create a VPN account that would only have access to the IP address for the voicemail.
