We have a OS7100 and it has been acting up lately. We've always had issues with the time resetting to January 1st. However over the past few months, our handsets are losing memory of the night and day buttons. The voicemail button also does not work. The system gets stuck in either night mode or day mode, then I have to use IT to restore a backup of our original configuration to get everything working again. A restore of the original config is the only thing that would work - power cycling the system and unplugging/replugging in the handset did not work.
Any ideas? Our local dealer has not been any help thus far. We are on one of the original versions 4.04.
Thanks

Do you feel this is a software issue?
I was told we would need to purchase the MP10a processor in order to upgrade but I have not heard back yet on cost yet.
I don't think it's right to have to buy a new processor to fix software glitches - is there a software update that would fix this issue but not require the newer MP10a processor?

There is new software versions for both the MP10 and the MP10a. The MP10a is a better processor, but I would try upgrading software. Tell the dealer you'd like him to install v4.30i. If you have IT, after the upgrade you'll need the latest version which is v1.30b.

Thank you. I'm hoping our MP10 is not bad and the software update resolves the issue.

I have seen the MP10 do some strange things, but we haven't had to replace any of the ones we have in service.
Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I think you should go ahead with the MP10a upgrade so that you will have the more supported processor. It has faster response and better audio balance on voicemail. You will have the system for some time and it will be worth it.

As I said in my reply... the MP10a is a better processor, but most likely a software upgrade will clear the problems unless the actual processor is bad and at that point the installing dealer needs to replace it if it's under warranty.

Avidcomm: From a consumer perspective, customers pay up to and sometimes over $3,000 for a phone system to handle a small business. I don't see why anyone should have to pay for a processor upgrade to fix an unreliable phone system. It should work out of the box with no issues, and no need for dealer intervention. If the phone system was rated for X phones and we were using X+3, then I could see the need for the processor upgrade as we went beyond the phone specifications. But in this scenario, we have not.
From a dealer perspective I understand the benefits of the new processor performance, a new sale, as well as the potential to fix issues caused by older software. But I'm sure some customers would be outraged to hear they have to spend more money to fix a problem that is the fault of the phone system and/or software.
By the way, we have not had any complaints on the performance of the system to warrant a better processor. Just simply looking for reliability. I'll follow up with a software upgrade and report back if that helps.

KFW Did you buy the system from the local dealer or did you buy it online and do it yourself? The price you quoted sounds like hardware only without installation by a certified dealer.
