I've installed a new MEM4 card in a clients idcs-100 system, to use for PCMMC access, using the LAN port.

I "installed" the card, and it seems to work ok.

I have setup the LAN port under MMC830 ethernet settings, gateway and mask.

But the 3 LAN Link-lights never turn on.

light 4 and 5 do their normal blinking sequence just fine.. but the lights 1, 2 and 3, never, ever come on.

Bad card?

Different Port Type Assignment needed?

Thanks for any help

Could be card, cable, or switch port.
Have you tried a cross over direct to a pc/laptop?

Thanks Nameless..

Tried a new cable.
Tried 6 different switch ports
Cross-over cable to pc

No go.
No LAN lights on MEM4 Card.

Is there some initialization function i need to do for the MEM4 card?

Thanks for any help

You can try a lan card restart in the same MMC as you configured the ip address.

Otherwise you have a dead lan port on the card by the sounds of it.

You can use the SIO port on the MEM4 or the MISC card for PCMMC programming (the SIO on the MEM4 can run at a faster speed)

While it does happen it is allmost never a bad lan port and usually a setup issue.

Thanks nameless...

Thanks Frodo_35... in which way would it be a setup issue?

I would be glad to correct, or configure as you see it..

?? ;-)

Set up can be hardware or software. The mem4 is a rare animal as it was discontinued pretty quick to make way for the rev 2 mcp1s. The problem allmost allways ends up with bad cables or switch ports etc. In all fairness I have had a couple of out and out bad lan ports but 98% of the time when I have tested suspected bad lan ports in another system with a known good setup they work. If the sugestions by nameless don't work you might have a bad port. 1 thing though have you tried to ping the new sys ip after you restarted the unit with mmc830 might just be bad leds or a driver ic.

Thanks Frodo_35 for the insight.

I have tested all 48 ports on the Network Switch and all work without fail.

The Cat5e patch cables I am using, all test clean and without any failures on my Fluke MicroScanner.

The IP address I assigned is not able to be pinged anywhere on the network. Since I have no "link" or "data" light on my Network Switch either.. that is understandable, I wouldn't be able to ping the Mem4 address.

I'm going with the fact, it is a bad card.. I just purchased it, and it has a 90 day return policy, so it is on it's way back.

Thanks for all your help, everyone.

Try plugging in a data loop back and see if you get anything.

Thanks bmreen, I have tested it with the Cisco 7912-42 loopback plug..

I have even connected it directly to my Fluke protocol anyalyzer to see if I can get any readings in or out from the ethernet port... but nothing is showing.

Thanks for the continuing help
