We are adjusting a Samsung 500 System for our new store. We are requesting DID's from the phone company and want the last 4 digits of the DID's to match the extension numbers. We currently were supplied with 04xx. These will not allow us to have extension numbers starting with 0, correct? What 4 digit extension numbers do we have to stay away from that would conflict with feature codes?

You can use extensions staring with 0, just have to use another digit (eg 9) to dial out with.

The switch provider can do a translation in their switch for you. They had old POTS numbers that ended in 0500, 0501, etc and the 500 would not like that.

The PRi provider translated those in the switch to 1500, 1501, etc. and we programmed those numbers in MMC 714 to the extensions.

Never do things the hard way when someone else can make it easy for you.

Can someone elaborate on how to have extensions start with zero?
Everytime you dial 0 it rings the operator. How do you change that?

Renumber the extensions then assign OPER a new feature code.

A word of advice, as we just had this exact same issue occur in the last couple weeks with a particular customer. They were issued a block of 60 did's that all began with 00xx. You can make the extensions start with 0 by removing the 0 in feature codes for the operator, as was mentioned above. However, if you ever plan on doing SPNET with this system you are going to run into a nightmare as network lcr will not accept 0 as a leading digit. My advice is that if their DID's are 0xxx, then change the extension numbering to 2xxx. Also, I would recommend going into the feature access codes and inserting a * before each feature code.

Since when does NLCR not accept 0?

I did this years ago on a 500R2 (around 2.4x software from memory) for call hop off (before working out howto do it via standard LCR)
