Thanks all, you were right about the PSU!
After replacement, the system functions as normal.

Glad to see you got a fix... Same, all our PSU's are refurbed before they go into stock, anyone else think it's strange that the caps on psu's fitted to the DCS range started to pop at the same time

I need to rebuild two of these power supplies. Can anyone recommend a source for the exact replacement capacitors?
I also seem to have misplaced the info that someone sent me recently for the replacement battery in a Prostar 816. Does it take a 3.6 NiMH?
Thanks!

I use a pair of 2200uF 10v Rubycon 10ZL2200MEFC12.5X20 from Farnell (order code 1144685) in each PSU. If you can't easily source these in the US they key parameters are:
Capacitance 2200µF Voltage Rating >=10V Height 20mm Diameter 12.5mm Mounting Through Hole Terminals Radial Leaded Lead Spacing 5mm AC Ripple Current >2.2A
Digikey have P12357-ND and 565-1650-ND which look to be equivalent.

From the Tech bulletin that went out a few years ago,the original capacitors were rated at 10V and it was said that the replacements should be 16 V.Overvoltage on the capacitors was what caused the problem and made them bulge. If you replace them with more 10V capacitors, you are going to see this problem repeat itself, but it does take time for the capacitors to get damaged.
The original problem was on the OS100 ystem, but the DS616 which is the 816 in Europe also has this problem, especially if there is an SVMi card installed as it increases the power supply load.

As stated capacitor problem has been ongoing for several years. Any issues on compact2 Idcs 100, Officeserv 100, 816 we replace psu as a rule of thumb. Swap out takes about 5 mins. Of course there is always the issue of the super cap not retaining the programming at power down. However a quick manual copy of the DB through key programming gets most of it. If you are a Samsung registered dealer in the UK then the Caps are available by contacting the Middleton site Depot.

I can't solder so I took mine to the local TV repair guy and had him replace them.
