I have heard that a number of other local companies that have been doing cabling for a good while are having problems getting their CAT 6 to certify. Is this common?

What brand did you have problems with? Were the bad patch pannels ad the jacks made by the same mfg?

I have done two different installs using Sprint products. One had Sprint Cat 6 jacks on both ends, the other had Sprint patch panels on one end and Sprint Cat 6 jacks on the other. I kept coming up with trouble on the jacks. On the first one, I changed the jacks to Leviton and had ZERO problems. I don't think I am too fond of Sprint's Cat 6 jacks. They terminate weird, and the pins in the jack look crushed down. I guess I just have better luck with Leviton products.

I thought I heard from one of our guys that we work with that is RCDD "that to be compliant you had to use the same mfg for panel and jacks"? Regardless if two differant brands pass the test. If I'm wrong I sure would like to know. Thanks

The Sprint panels and jacks sometimes will spring back out or stick on your punch blade after terminating. We ran into this on several jobs, if you take your time terminating and checking, they seem to be ok (I don't think they should be this way!!) We had a job using Allentel cat 6 and had to replace everything because of problems with the pins in the jacks sticking/staying up after inserting and removing the tester (they passed because the tester was the first device in the jack) once the user plugged in they would get intermittant connections to the network. It seemed to be a manufacturing problem with the black cat6 jacks, blue colored ones were ok. (allentel may make sprints panels, they look similar) We have had problems with Gruber voice jacks in the past and there older 5/5e panels would break the solder on the panel if punched to hard,(they have changed them to have metal reinforcement so the circuit board does not flex when punched). We have never had a problem with ICC, they are a little more expensive.....but how much does it cost to replace one jack after a completed install........

I have always liked ICC, they are a bit more expensive but trouble free.

Never done cat 6 panels & jacks. We use Allentel for everything and haven't had any problems yet.
