The electrician has provided wire to the job. It is "Priority" brand, which I never heard of. The boxes are all torn up with some rolls out of the box without the guides or busted guides. While I can somehow probably use them, the off brand bothers me. What do you guys think? I'd really like to accomadate the electrician if I can, but,,,, ???

Rodney

Check to see if the cable is UL certified and complies with the FCC. If its UL certified then I would think it should be O.K.. I also would check the cable over for any damage.

We used to buy "no name" brand cable from a supplier in the midwest because they included shipping. We had a significant job fail inspection because the cable wasn't up to some specification that I can't recall. We had to pull about 20K feet out and replace it the day (and night) before the customer moved into the space. This failure caused them to not get their final electrical inspection and subsequently, they didn't get their certificate of occupancy. They couldn't move in until VERY late the next day. We ended up doing the job over PLUS paying reinspection fees. Oh, and I can't forget having to pay for their moving crew of twelve men to sit and wait. Needless to say, this super deal and free shipping cost us big time. Fortunately, the customer still likes us four years later. Don't take the risk; a couple hundred dollars' savings cost us tens of thousands.

Seems to be ul certified ISO 9001 The wire has a date it was shipped to the distributor on each box. It appears, it came in 1 1/2 months ago and sat outside thereafter. ![[Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]](https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/frown.gif)

Just make it very clear to the customer that you are not supplying the cable and it falls on the electrician if it isn't up to standards. Personally I wouldn't use it.

good point> Let the customer know the electrician supplied the cable. (Before you pull it.)

per your suggestions, I simply went and got some wire and will try to square it with the electrician when I see him...

We have faced this "problem" many times. What we have seen is this from electricians: 1: Did not pull plenum rated cable where is is necesary. 2: Did not pull or provide ISO 9001 certified cable to use. 3: Pulled but did not provide ISO 9001 certified cable or job specific related materiel.
What we have have had to do to rectify all these situations is pull our own cable to meet code and the customer has to pay the difference, good thing for us is that we have identified the problem before going into the crapper. One rule of thumb; if you have to think about it (inspection/installation problems) it probably won't work.

If that cable sat outside and the boxes were all torn up, i sure would not use it.

Use the brands that you trust. A few of the cable manufactures private lable. Colman cable was once texarkana. Belden, comscope, mohawk, hatachi, all names that we know . But I have a stange feeling that most of these companies don't make cable but are starting to make it offshore and place their name on it.
