It is not that any of us wouldn't move the demarc. Its the fact that if you are not experienced with T1's then it is best to have the telco move it. They are responsible for it anyway. Extending a demarc is not a problem for most but if you do not verify the levels then you will have errors. BPV, CRC's, Etc.
This is a place for information. We are here to help people with questions. We give idea's of things to check verify and do. Before you do anything. That is what we have done for MAARON. Just because you have worked for a telco. So have I. Maaron probably has not. I do not know for sure. The information we gave was what was best for his situation.
There is a possibility my post was interpreted in a manner that I did not intend. To clarify: I was stating that more often than not the Technicians working for the telephone copany will do what is easiest and quickest for them. This was a semi "tongue in cheek" comment. I know even I would do only what I absolutely had to at times.
You stating that the information you and others gave him being best for him is purely opinion. (Obviously one that is from a point of experience) as others that gave suggestions differing from your own may well feel they had the better idea.
My opinion is that forums are a place where many (hopefully well thought out) opinions are presented to a poster asking a question and then the original poster will use their best judgement to determine what is their best course of action.
When I recommended the technician place an order to have a demarcation point extended I felt it was a viable alternative IF the technician feels he is in over his head.
This is a service available from every LEC as far as I know.Notice I said extending the demarcation point not "MOVING" it. This would non-regulated work for the LEC. They have no problem taking orders for this as they charge dearly for this work.Asking them to MOVE the demarcation point would require they do work on the regulated side where they are not allowed to charge as much money,in IL anyway. This they are less likely to do. Rates here in IL when I quit were:
$100 Non-Reg
$17/$11 Reg
Doing what I suggested would also solve his problem. It would however require paying the LEC for their work which may NOT be acceptable to the original poster. I do not feel that my idea was the best presented. I believe I did provide a viable solution for the problem described.
thanks,
Chad
