Oops. Superior/Essex calls out 5e CM in their catalog saying it's for residential LAN. Yeah, how much of THAT would I ever buy and how much less would it be over my vendor selling 30,000 of 5eCMR everyday?

That's exactly the point and also consider that most of us don't know where we will be installing cable next week. Cable is expensive and I know I am not going to stock different versions for the different uses. All our CAT3 is CMP that can be used everywhere and is not that much more expensive than CMR. As for CAT5e, the plenum version is much more expensive than the CMR version so we stock some CMR. This is also one big reason why I advocate CAT3 for voice. If a job requires CMP you can save quite a bit if you don't waste money on CAT5e where you don't need it.

Carl All of the "big boys" (Graybar, Anixter, etc) carry "CM" non-plenum cable from Systimax. It is Systimax's standard "non-plenum" cable. You'll notice on the link below that the first cable they mention is the 1061C cable.
