I need a Cat 5 toner; especially Cat 5 cables connected to switches. I have a Fluke DSP-4300 that works well; but I want suggestions of one that is inexpensive that I can carry in my tool box. Most of the ones I have tried the sound didn't come trough clearly enough to find Cat 5's that are buried.

I need a Cat 5 toner; especially Cat 5 cables connected to switches. If the cable is connected to anything a toner isn't going to work. A CG here awhile back mentioned a system for identifying cables under those conditions. Look around the geek tool suppliers , might have been made by Fluke. -Hal

There was another one too Bill where a CG with only a few posts said something about us phone guys not knowing about network test gear. That's the one I was talking about. (Naturally I would remember that.) He suggested something but it may have also been that Fluke. Whatever it was it sounded good and the price was right.

Hal, one of the geeks around here has a unit (Ideal, I believe) that either tones or flashes the hub. Is that what you were thinking?
