I was talked into running RG6QS along with the data and phone lines I was pulling in. At the frame I have 20 coax cables and a grounding bar tapped from the mains. My inclination is to terminate the RG6 to a patch panel like I would data, but somehow I think that's probably not the right way to go. What I want is a clean installation, of course, hence the patch panel. What's the proper way to do this? I was going to leave setting up the equipment to the satellite TV techs and go back afterward to clean up whatever they do.

Also, I've seen F-type barrel couplers rated at 1, 2, and 3GHz. Are these for real? I kinda assumed a barrel coupler was a barrel coupler....

TIA!

You would be correct in leaving the termination of cables and installation of equipment to the sat techs. A patch panel is absolutely not the way to go. Just leave the unterminated cables for them, and I certainly would not go back and mess with whatever they do.

I'm not clear on what the grounding bar is like or what you intend to do with it.

Yes, F81s can be had in better quality 2-3 Ghz types as well as ground blocks that use them. Use the garden variety for CATV and the better 2-3 Ghz ones for satellite where you have frequencies in that range.

What Hal wrote. It's a good idea to get your equipment up on the backboard before the cable guys arrive. wink

I agree with Hal. Just about everytime I've ran and terminated RG-6 at a customer location and have returned later on an unrelated telephone service call, all my RG-6 cable terminations had been cut off and re-terminated by their cable provider. Why waste your terminations, just button them up and leave them some of slack.

Ditto.

We run the coax for Time Warner here at the Plant. We terminate it in the office, install a box and a plate and then test for continuity back at the closet. We leave TW plenty of slack and they terminate it and install their own splitters. That's how they like it.

I agree. Nothing worse than being on site when you think you put the splitters in right only to be told you are wrong by the cable guy. It's happened to me...

Thanks to all for the responses. I went Sam's way, terminated at stations and plenty of slack at the backboard. Thanks again.
