Thanks to all of the postings I am able to get the laptop connected to the rs232 test port using a DB9-DB25 cable.
When I hit the esc button I get a prompt on the screen asking for the password.
ENTER PASSWORD>
I am entering what I think is the correct password and pressing the enter key. I am getting no response.
The cursor just sits there.
I can't tell if the problem is with the password or with the pc configuration.
I am emulating a TVI925 with 9600,8,None,1.
The flow control is set for XON/XOFF.
I've tried changing the terminal type to VTXXX, TVI950.
I've tried changing the flow control to none, and then to hardware.
I've changed the baud rate but 9600 seems to be the only one that works.
Does anyone know if a wrong password is supplied if the system will respond with a message?
Any ideas as to anything I can try?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I inherited the system so my knowledge base is limited to the IDS manual.
Thanks
Steve.

If you hit the escape key again do you get another enter password prompt? If you do then it sounds like the wrong password.Try level8 as the password,it's the default.

Guess what I found in the manual. The default passwords! [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]
So I was able to begin programming this beast.
Which leads to another question.
The phones seem to be in a pulse mode.
Does anyone know which screen I need to be in to set them to tone?

In the "B" screen (system programming), hit L for line and then tab over to DTMF. You need to change that to "Y" for yes to turn on touchtone dialing.

Pulse mode, while quaint, does get on one's nerves if you're sitting near the switch like I do! [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]
