My tempo set went walking....

Whaddya guys recommend for a tone/probe set.

Aines 240 Tone is what I'm thinking.
Probe ???

I used my backup fluke probe in a pinch (cableiq) in the truck and it sucks...

I love my fluke pro3000 set, changes tone when you short the pair, great when working alone. I also have an Aines tone and tempo 200xp filter probe

I find myself using the fluke set more often

I've been using the same Progressive/Tempo/Greenlee 701K kit for years...77HP toner, cut the alligator clips off and put angled bed of nails clips on, 200EP probe. I've also got an Aines toner that I rescued from a ceiling.

I have abot 5 toners and probes. The Fluke is the one I like the least. It changes tone when you short the pair, but it has a funny pass-through. In my 77hp's I can clip my butt set to the clips and plug the modular plug into a jack and use it Not so much with the Fluke, since it has no "center" position on the switch. The Fluke also eats batteries. I scored 5 or 6 77 toners when Home Dumpo closed stores then closed out the Progressive colors for $15 each.

I also own a couple of cheap (read TestUm JDSU) LAN toners that put tones on all pairs.

I also use the Fluke 3000 toner, primarily because of the changing tone continuity test when you short the pair.

It needs a better way to turn it off, often the rubber on/off button gets hit while in my bag and the battery is dead when I need it.

Ditto on the fluke. I had a Progressive filter probe but I didn't like the auto off function...the thing was constanly beeping in my bag. Right now it is the overhead over the bar in a very fancy restaurant. Hopefully I can get in there when they are not busy and retrieve it, it's only been a year!

LOL Derrick. If you remember to put the Fluke in Continuity every time you finish, it saves the battery, it still doesn't fix the pass-thru.

Ya know, come to think of it, I didn't like the Fluke 200 or 2000 or whatever that "digital" tone and probe was either. It never really worked right. I grew to hate that music it played.

Um, how did it end up in the restaurant ceiling?

I like restaurants and I detest them all in one for doing telcom work. I like them obviously for the food once I am done and want to eat lunch. On the down side, thay will give very little time between when the workers enter at 9 am, and open at 11. Some times, it takes more then two hours to do the job so I would have to leave for the day.

I was toning cables in a large raceway above the bar and somehow I left it up there I think.

Left a Progressive toner in mud and snow for 3 weeks 25 years ago and it was still sending the tone when I discovered where I had left it. AND IT STILL WORKS!
