Just found this board, great place!

I am seriously considering hosted VOIP pbx solution allthough some threads here have created caution......

I'm setting up a new office; 6-9 users and love my home vonage (Click2call integration with outlook, email notification of messages, simulring etc so was leaning to voip, but.....

I have a Norstar SPNS824_M7310 pbs and 8 phones allready, so am wondering if figuring out a hybrid approach might make sense. But I can't spend much $$$ and would love some thoughts on potential solutions?

Thanks... Peter

Hi Peter,

IMHO hosted VoIP is great for 6 or less users any more than that and I think the monthly seat charge is getting towards what you would be paying for a lease for your own equipment.

Your least expensive option would be to hang a gateway in front of your Nortel system this would allow you to sign up for a service such as Vonage for your IP trunks the downside is that you only have a limited number of CO ports on your switch which will limit what you can do, but you could get a 4 line plan from Vonage and leave two copper trunks for redundancy

peter, shoot me an email @ mboy72@ gmail.com

I have a friend who is in the hosted VOPI PBX business.

I am not in the phone business myself (IT MNGR), but he is lifelong friend. His CO is based out of NYC.

I am in Somerset btw.

Peter,

As a interconect I get3-4 calls a week asking if I want to resale hosted VoIP.

Suffering from a fatal character flaw where I still believe that I should offer value to my customers for the money they pay me, I keep asking myself - where is the value in this for the customer?

Hosted VOIP is just a new skin on the Centrex service that was ever so popular (NOT) a decade or 2 ago from the LECs and CLECS.

Ask ANY business person you know if they have centrex as their phone system. Then ask if they know anyone they do business with who uses centrex as their phone system?
Has anyone suggested that Centrex is the answer to your issues? Can you guess why?

Hosted VOIP is centrex offered through the new media. That's the ONLY difference (and maybe a list of other tech issues piled on top just to make it even more fun)
