I'm trying to coordinate a fax server installation with an IT person who's using RelayFax for the first time. This is my first fax server on an E-class, but I'm quite sure everything is fine on my end. My digit grabber shows the ports are sending the right digits at the right time, but the fax board seems to ignore them and follow the default routing. Could he be missing something in the config at his end?
If anyone else has used RelayFax that would be helpful because their tech support is asking him (the IT guy) about very esoteric terms for DTMF signaling, and whether ESI meets all the specs- hey it's DTMF, right? Those tones are pretty standard from platform to platform! I can hear them on a test set, they sound fine to me, and that's always been enough to guarantee that it should work.

DTMF tones from ESI equipment will not be the problem. Sounds to me like finger pointing from IT dept. Usually when IT hits a snag they start placing blame rather than solving problems.

Can you go directly on one of their ports with a butt-set? You can control the inter-digit and tone length manually.

The finger-pointing isn't coming from the IT dept, it's RelayFax's tech support (who I'm not dealing with). I've certainly had issues with IT depts in the past but this guy is good, it's just he knows nothing of telephony, and it doesn't seem RelayFax does either. The inter-digit and tone length is only an issue as far as RelayFax is concerned- they want to be 10,000% sure that it is their problem before they will go the extra mile. And yes I have tried a butt set- the server ignores the DTMF.

We use an ESI X Class with a Castelle FaxPress using DTMF routing without any issues. It works great and was easy to setup.

ipanema.....
Does the Castelle FaxPress require an onsite Exchange or other email server? We are looking for a solution with our ESI E-Class but we use off site POP email.

Yes, the FaxPress loads an application "connector" on the Exchange server to sync inbound faxes to the users mailbox in Exchange.
