To the experts...
I recently purchased a new facility for my lumber business and the previous co. left behind a pretty elaborate Executone system that they used for a call center (no handsets). Bellsouth will be in next week to install 6 lines and I haven't a clue in how to program or set up this system. I'm fairly computer literate, so I plugged a monitor & keyboard into the CPU to have a look. What I found was DOS based software titled: DCOM ver. 1.6 as well as Infostar VXC. There are many module cards plugged into the cabinet (I have pics), but I'm not sure what does what. There are also roughly 8 stacked boxes that say Isotec voice announcer. I would like to become familiar with how to used this system and if it will hunt/rollover my lines, provide auto attendant, and music on hold. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

The hunting/rollover of lines is done by your line provider not the phone system. As for auto attendant yes you have that with the VXC system which is a voicemail auto attendant system. If you don't know what you're doing I strongly recommend you get your hands on a manual or find a tech to help.

It sounds like you have an Executone/Isoetec IDS (Integrated Digital System). The VXC is your voice mail. You should be able to set that up to handle your auto attendant. If you are looking for manuals or equipment (phones, etc..) for that system, hit my web site. It is not a simple system to program. I would highly recomend finding a tech who is familiar with the IDS. You should start with Intertel dealers as Executone was bought out by Intertel. A lot of the techs know the IDS. There are also likely to be some independant techs in your area that know the system. Just be aware that dealers are likely to try to sell you a new system. ------------------ Executone Telephone Repair Toshiba Telephone Repair [This message has been edited by paul144 (edited December 09, 2004).]

Also, programming on the IDS was done using an operator's terminal, which was usually a specially modified wyse-60. It can be done with a computer running a terminal emulation program. Search the threads for the emulation and setings to use. Hyperterminal does not work well. Use Procom. ------------------ Intertel Telephone Repair Toshiba Telephone Repair

I have two fairly old laptops that I plan on using with the emulation software. Is the ProComm that everyone refers to the one mfr. by Symantic? Runs around $140?
Will this software allow me to program/set-up the greeting on auto attendant and the music on hold? Why exactly would I buy the programming emulation?
Do I connect my laptop into the serial port of the card that has the hard drive?
My phone tech guy that's coming out to connect the lines to the system after Bellsouth leaves wants to sell me a CRT system for $550.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Pay attention to phone vendor. He will use a laptop to program, and if he is a good guy will show you some helpful hints on programming. Good Luck!! JJ
If all else fails, use a BFH.

Don't waste your time with buying a CRT unless you really need one for the operator position. I bet that if you do some digging, you will find a copy of Procom Plus for free. ------------------ Intertel Telephone Repair Toshiba Telephone Repair

Lumber, try https://www.aspectscripting.com/support.html I was able to get and old version which does the trick for me. Since I don't have to do a whole lot of maintenance on our system I can put up with the real old version of ProComm Plus. Besides the price is right.

Some other software options - personally I prefer Telix, either dos or windows versions. If you're as cheap as I am, just use Hyperterminal that comes with Windows.
