Hey all,

I could really use some help with external links to my website (see my post in Web Development)... I currently rank between 17th and 28th on a Google of "calgary telephone systems".

But along those lines: What are some of the most common searches a potential customer might use? The most typical ones I can see from using Google Adwords are:
telephone
nortel telephones
panasonic telephones
voicemail
telephone companies

Of course, some of those are most likely residential inquiries.

you're on the right track. what you are looking for is a keyword suggestion site. yahoo used to have one called overture. But there are others. You type in a keyword and it will give you some suggestions as to what variations on that keyword to incorporate into your website. it will take a little time but it pays off.

also reciprocal linking works well.

finally paid google ads work too. i got a $250 coupon from them and it worked nicely.

you need good telecom related links for PR.

SEO is really helpful for good ranking and business leads. You optimize your site.

The best thing to do is get your site listed in different website directories, and also to participate in online discussions (with a link to your website of course), such as here on the sundance forums as well as telecom related blogs, twitter/linkedin/facebook/social networking, and other sites.

telephone companies

Check out https://websitegrader.com/. If you enter in your site it will give you rankings and info on your site and also some suggestions on how to increase your traffic and google rank. Pretty cool, it was a big help to us and we definitely saw results after following their suggestions.

also, google has a free keyword tool, just google it, will pop right up. Using it will really shake you up as to what you think people type into a search engine. I bet you won't find that more than 10 people a month type in the phrase "calgary telephone systems" but there will be a whole host of other phrases you should clue in on.
