I've got an APS running v8.xx software.
With Iwatsu programmer version 4.0 and the Iwatsu serial cable, it connects fine.

As soon as I upgrade the programmer to version 4.3.2658 and use the same .sdt file, I get the following error when trying to make the connection. "Did not connect, The Handle is invalid".

Now this is with the same computer and same cable, no changes to OS, or serial settings.

If I uninstall 4.3 and reinstall 4.0 programmer,(and use the same .sdt file) it again works.

I have tried creating a new file from scratch, but it seems to make no difference. Anyone else seen this error? (and/or know the solution)

Thanks!
DP

Make sure you have the latest versions of Microsoft NET Framework, versions 1 an 2. The earler versions of Programmer 4 only required version 1, but the newer ones require version 2 also. These versions of NET Framework can co-exist on the same pc, so you don't have to uninstall version 1.

Try the Programmer version 4.3.2664. We had some problems with version 4.3.2658 and the ECS which seem cleared up so far, although they were not the same issue you are experiencing.

Thanks,
I'll try to get a copy of 4.3.2664 and let you know what happens.

You CAN use programmer 3.2 with the ADIX thru version 8.x . It won't work with the ECS. I use programmer 3.2 for uploading/downloading and programmer 4 if I have a lot of programmg to do because it's a little more intuitive and is laid out in a more logical way. Programmer 4 wasn't really designed to be used with serial connections, and sometimes gets cranky when connecting to the APS

OK,
I tried version 4.3.2664 and it did not help.
I think I have found the reason I am getting the error.

I am using Windows XP x64
If I use programmer 3.x it seems to work fine on XP x64.
If I use Programmer 4.0 it seems to work fine on XP x64.

But any version after 4.0 does not seem to work correctly on Windows XP x64

They must have made some change in the programming of later versions that seems to "breaks" things with the serial connections setup.

Unless someone has any idea of a fix?

The only reason I was moving to a version above 4.0 was because I will be using it with an ECS version 3 database in the very near future.

Thanks,

Because the ECS connects via a network connection-the preferred method,BTW, you probaby won't experience the conection problems you're having now. The new programer versions really don't like serial connections, but tolerate them to some degree.

JBean3329 is correct, APS system and ECS are like oil and vinegar, they sometimes do not mix. Just to let everyone know Programmer version 4.3.2658 was a fix for the DSS moduals disappearing in hardware category. When Iwatsu fix that issue, they created another issue, which required an reset if you made any changes in the station class, if you did not do a reset you could crouped the database. I received this from the Engineers from Iwatsu. So version 4.3.2664 is a fix for all the issue that they been having. My advise is be careful in what you read, it could get you in more trouble. :read: :read: :read:
