Running ECS 8.0 with an MBU version 1.08 Iwatsu Engineering Bulletin EBA-2010-19-Rev 4 states that the MBU MUST be upgraded to 1.22 to work properly with ECS 8.0
Followed the direction in the bulletin. Turned on software version checking for the MBU (in slot 2) and reset the MBU. (removed the ethernet cables first as according to the warning)
The MBU resets, takes about 2 minutes, and then resets again, and again and again. It goes through the cycle but never seems to complete. This will continue until you turn off the software version checking for the MBU. Then the MBU resets properly and comes back on line and works fine. (but the software version is still 1.08)
I have tried manual resets and "automatic" resets, but the issue is the same.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
Thanks!

I have two things you might try during the upgrade. On an older ECS I had an issue with the MBU accepting the upgrade and Tech Support gave me a tip. When you change S/W Version Comp. to 'Yes', upload the changes by selecting the field and using CTRL-U.
Secondly, reset the MBU and actually walk away for about 5 minutes to make sure you are not interrupting the upgrade process. I'm not certain on this, but downloading the component versions before the upgrade is complete seems to cause issue.
Good luck.

It's also imperative that your network connection to the MBU is unplugged when you do the upgrade. It's possible to damage the MBU and having a bunch of network traffic flashing at it certainly muddles things.

Did you leave the short blue patch cord connected from the MBU top port to the CCSU LAN 2 port to be able to receive the software upgrade ?

Thank you all for replying to this issue. So I tried again just to be sure. 1. Used ctrl-U (nice tip, thanks) 2. closed out of Programmer and waited 60 minutes. 3. Only had ccu-mbu ethernet cable attached (no others) The result was the same. No luck. It just cycled endlessly without success until reset softeare update to "no". Is there any chance the MBU might be faulty? In all other respects, it works fine.

Are you initiating the reset with the programmer or with the reset button on the MBU?
If you want to use the programmer, you have to change the software checking field to enabled, upload and DISCONNECT from the switch to write the change, then reconnect to reset the mbu.
The key is you have to disconnect from the switch before most programmer changes are written to the data base. Upload your changes, disconnect, then use the reset switch on the MBU if you're on site.

Yes, I tried both through the programmer and with the reset button. As you said, I uploaded the change and then disconnected and closed programmer. Went to the local system and pressed the reset button on the MBU.
I have now tried this with two different MBUs. The original with software versoin 1.08 and a second with version 1.10. The intent is to get to version 1.22. Both MUBs acted with the same behavior.
I'm stumped. Any other ideas?

I'm grasping at straws, but perhaps going from version 1.0x/1 is too big a leap to 1.22
If you have a system somewhere that isn't running ECS version 8.0, try upgrading to 1.19, 1.20 or 1.21 first, then hit it up on version 8 software with MBU 1.22 software.
Don't know if that's it or not. The old database versions had to be upgraded in increments before Windows programmer came along, this could be the same.
