Just thinking out loud...

I could ride my bicycle everywhere I go. It's a really good bicycle.

It's not as fast as my car, but, it is capable of getting me where I want to go.

My car has this really cool windshield and roof. They come in pretty handy when it rains or snows (keeps me dry). My bicycle doesn't have either.

Speaking of snow, when it's cold out, the heater in my car totally rocks (keeps me warm)!

Now that I think of it, my car has some features that my bicycle just doesn't have. I know it doesn't snow everywhere, so there are some people that wouldn't need ALL of the features the car has to offer. But, when there is a feature you need, the bicycle is no substitute.

Maybe it's the same with the IT guys (I work with PLENTY of them). It's not that they need to be convinced of anything...They've just gotten used to being warm and dry.

It's all a matter of perspective.

Before I get flamed for my little analogy, I should also post that I am a registered AdTran reseller, and have sold and installed products from the NetVanta line. They have their place, but most Enterprise IT guys would tell you that their place is "NOT in THEIR network".

My point is NOT that AdTran is bad. It is that Cisco commands a great deal of respect and trust from the IT guys. And, although their following can appear to be blind from the outside, those sentiments have been earned. Once your rear has been saved by a particular manufacturer, you understand.

BCMGuy,
I agree whole heartedly. The Adtran line is fine for small and low end medium business. Threre are alot of things you dont get such as you said the "heat and windshield". Great analogy. I too have installed and worked on both and the differences can be huge.
