I'm adding a third programming terminal to an IDS 228 system. Can someone tell me what the pinout of the cable is from the punch-down connector for I/O port 3 or 4 to a DB-9 on a PC's COM port? Thanks.

A standard com port on a PC would not be able to communicate with a RS422 port. You would need to add a port card.

RS232 ports on IDS are ports 1 and 2; 5 through 10 using Digital Data Interface
Ports 3 and 4 are RS422 used for Operator Terminal (Wyse Terminal).

RS232 pinout:
DB25 to DB9
2 3
3 2
7 5
20 4

If all else fails, use a BFH.
