We have an IDS 432 system with an old OKI dot matrix printer for printing reports. The printer itself is old and tired and ready for retirement.

While I have found a place to purchase the same exact printer I wonder if putting another dot matrix that is prone to paper jams on the system makes sense.

Do you think it would be possible for me to hook an inexpensive laser printer up to the IDS? Is that something that is supported?

Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Geoff

as long as it has a serial interface it should work, You could also at one time ' Buy ' a report package software..such as 'tabs ' to capture all the data and then sort it.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

Thanks nonameyet . Sorry for my late reply but for some reason I never got an email noting that you replied. We did attempt this using a Serial to Paralell converter and and a paralell laser printer but so far no luck. Thanks again.

Another thing that you could try, with an old computer, with a serial port, attach the output of the system to the computer serial port. Run hypertermal, or better, procomm. The output to the computer is already digital. You can take the output and save it as a file. Import the data into a speadsheet or some other program.
