Has anyone had any experience with Cox cable's telephone service? I had their services before and it worked fine with faxing however I never attempted a modem call.

I'm not looking for speed, 9600 is about the max I'll ever need to connect.

I had it until I moved to my new address and I had all kinds of problems and I have since switched to AT&T. I have been happy with AT&T ever since.

Aircom KC ,

I have been using Cox with a modem and it is not
that reliable. Sometimes I have to connect to
phone systems or Vmails's 3 or 4 times. I found also
the current was very high and dropped it down with
some resistors.

I have a friend in Alexandria, VA who has his home service with Cox and his office in Springfield, VA and they work flawlessly. I will admit that the loop current is a bit steep on their pots lines that are derrived by their local equipment, but that can be tamed. Like fone32 said, resistors might be part of the plan unless you want to invest in some of Sandman's automatic loop current attenuators.

My guess would be that resistors would be safe since the only issue is the unit's output and that's not going to vary. We aren't talking about massive cable pair lengths as with tradional dial tone where loops and levels can vary.

I would not recomend the resistors because I had cox for my service and they tried resistors it only caused more problems. I had to switch my service away from them and go to AT&T ever since I did I have had flawless service.

Loop current is a pain in the butt, but the best way to attenuate is with a commercial product. We use the ITC-4001 which is kinda pricey, but precision attenuation.

Hi all,

I just have to respond by saying if you understand
ohms law you will understand why just using resistors will work. Just use a meter reading miliamps you will see they work. I use them alot
on problems with customers having voice cutoffs,
fax and modem problems.

I have one line on COX/Suddenlink for fax and modem that they apparently set some parameter for data and it works ok and the other lines do not. I still prefer my landline at home.
