I need some advice:

I just got off the phone with a VZ repair person, and I can't believe what happened.

I told him that I had run a buried service wire for a customer whose wire had failed, and that I now needed VZ to come out and do the final hook-up at the pole and the company side of the NID. I told him that I had done a temporary hook-up, to ensure that the customer had fire alarm service for the evening, but, being a former Union guy, I wanted to make some work for a repairman, and therefore was asking to have it made permanent.

(When I worked for them, that was standard procedure. The customer buried a new wire, and we came out and tied it in.)

He immediately got obnoxious and said, among other things, that if the repairman came out and found dial tone at the NID, he wouldn't do anything, and report it as a No Trouble Found. So I jokingly asked should I go back in the morning and disconnect the wire at the NID. He started shouting "I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU DO, I TOLD YOU WHAT THE POLICY IS, AND AS A UNION MEMBER, YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE CUSTOMER IS GOING TO GET CHARGED FOR THE VISIT!!!"

I tried to calm him down and said that I apologized for getting the conversation off on the wrong foot, and he shouted "APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!!! APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!!! and hung up on me.

So, what I need to know is, should I have egg and bacon on a roll with hash browns tomorrow morning, or just an orange muffin, and then have a big lunch?

(You thought I was upset by VZ? Ha! It takes more than those lunatics to get my goat.)

I'd have been on that case like a chicken on a June bug. Those fools are never allowed to talk to anyone like that. Besides, what does being a union member have to do with the price of tea in China? Policies and procedures vary from territory to territory. Man, I don't know how you kept your cool.

Oh, and I'd go for the big breakfast.

Wow... eek

I'd have to go with orange rolls for breakfast, followed by a grilled Verizon Tech lunch, with extra garnish.

If I ever spoke to a customer like that, I would be fired in less time than it took me to type "wow".

In 19 years, I've never had anyone go off on me like that when dealing with Verizon (New England Telephone).

Whoever Arthur was speaking with was in dire need of a "time out".

Arthur,

Have the breakfast and the big lunch. You deserve it! You were looking out for the customer and Verizon… and one of them is an A$$. When I call Verizon for service, sometimes I get the most intelligent technician that gets the problem fixed quickly; other times the phone is answered by someone who is just an idiot. I’ve never had one go off on me.

Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich for you.

Knuckle sandwich for him. Make it a double.

I hope you went with the muffin and are planning the big lunch… That’s what I’d do.

*scratching head* Um, yeah… “Bizarre” is about the only thing that fits your VZN story there. :bang:

That's pretty typical behavior for most of the ex-VZ (now Fairpoint) techs around here. They'll NTF all day long. I've had several rude techs have a cow about this or that. Then again, I subcontract to the "competition" so I'm made out as the devil and it's always my fault by association. I pretty used to it though.

On the flipside, I have met a couple of nice techs that really went the extra mile to make things right. But those are the few good guys (and gals) and there aren't enough of them working for FP.

Classic case of "no good deed goes unpunished". That's what you get for being considerate of other entities, minimizing downtime to the customer, and comprehensively following procedure. The VZN guy must have really been having a bad day, although that is no excuse for his unprofessionalism.
