Whenever I come across a radio tie line(RTNA circuit), I'm told I should see a big capacitor kick across the pair(about 100 points with a sidekick or KS meter) and a normal capacitance kick(depends on distance to CO)one side to ground.
My question is should there be ANY voltage on the line either from the D4 card in carrier or from the end equipment?
This is over a regular copper pair and I should be receiving tone @-8 db and sending @0.0 db.

There shouldn't be any voltage. Most of the time the CO techs don't change the option on the d4 cards to disable sealing current. Leaving it on will cause a hum on the transmission.

Thanks,I'll make sure they check the sealing current. The one I worked on today had about 32 volts on it today on my end of the circuit. After opening and closing the smas(smash)point(test points) a few times, the voltage slowly got less and less down to 2 or 3 volts.I was told that these points can go bad which is what I suspect happened today. How much voltage would the sealing current provide?
