We have a PRI from TDS and I am looking to figure out if they support inband PRI indications or out of band PRI indications.

Thanks.

Hi John,

Thanks for responding. It is in regards to a setting on our PBX that is described as follows:

PRI Out of band indications.
Enable this to report Busy and Congestion on a PRI using out-of-band notification. Inband indication doesn't seem to work with all telcos.

outofband: Signal Busy/Congestion out of band with RELEASE/DISCONNECT
inband: Signal Busy/Congestion using in-band tones (default)

The PBX is currently set for outofband and we are randomly dropping calls. But, I don't know if this could be related to the indications setting or not. Since I set this up myself, I am considering everything I don't fully understand to be a possibility.

Thanks.

The setting should have nothing to do with the dropping of calls.

I've never heard of such a setting on a PRI.

Just a thought: With out of band notification it is saying go to the Delta signaling channel to look for Busy and congestion notifications for the channels or trunks.

With in band it is saying look at the channels themselves for tones that will indicate Busy and congestion notifications.

Thanks Bill and John. This is helpful -- enough to know that this setting isn't related to my calls dropping. I will move on to search for the culprit.

Thanks again.
