I have a builder who wants to set up a camera on his jobsite to catch theives stealing his lumber and equipment.
Do any of you know where I can get a weatherproof enclosure for the DVR and power supply?
Another question, have any of you guys used the USP Liveshot cell camera, if so does it work ok?

I was going to suggest the live shot camera, I have not personally used it, but I have seen a demo and it looked pretty good. As far as a dvr and power supply enclosure I do not know of any for outdoor use.

www.supercircuits.com they have a wireless utility box camera made for jobs like this You could also take a small camera and pocket DVR and make your own

If you are going to use the USP Liveshot why do you need a DVR enclosure?

The problem with trying to catch these job site thieves (believe me, I've tried this) is that unless it is someone familiar, you can't identify the culprits. I've watched many a great video of theft in action only to see balaclavas or complete out of town strangers. Sometimes they will kick you while you are down and even steal the surveillence equipment.

I was only looking into using the USP and some feedback on it. I havent decided which way to go yet.

That USP Liveshot looks like a good unit. The problem I have with it is that it is not very stealth. It would suck to spend that kind of money and have them steal the camera. Sure you would have their picture, but what if you couldn't identify them?

I think a better way is with hidden cameras. The problem with that is you will need infrared and they don't make them very stealth either. It's a tough situation and I've been there. I would like to know anyone else's ideas on this subject as well.

At least with something like this, the main unit could be in a construction trailer, a model home, a job site truck, etc. and it has a 2000 ft range to a sensor that is in the building under construction. Being monitored, someone would be dispatched to hopefully catch the culprits before they leave.

No, I haven't. It's a little expensive, (around $900 US retail) or at least it was when I received the info on it last summer. It may have come down in price by now. Then again, if your a builder and you invest in one, it's not like your leaving it behind somewhere. You can keep using it from site to site and if it keeps your supplies and tools from getting ripped off, it's worth it.
