I am thinking about replacing the security system in my house. I am normally a Honeywell/Ademco guy and I am most familiar with their systems, but after reading so many positives notes about DSC I am considering them as well. I like the Honeywell touch screen keypads (6270) and would like to use a touch screen, DSC shows one on their home page but I can not find much info on it. Does anyone have a model number for the DSC touch screen, also what panels do they work with, and most importantly how well do they work? Thanks

that bobby I have not been able to find out anything about it. looks like I will be sticking with the ademco panel. I would still like to find more info on this touch screen
I went to a sales seminar late in the summer on DSC's three new panels and they had a touch screen hooked up for demoing. I really liked it, want one myself. It seemed to work lighter on the touch and the graphics were better than the Ademco.
They said it was being released late fall/early winter. Last time I checked (about 2 weeks ago), it wasn't available yet.
It will only work on the new panels, PC1616, PC1832, and PC1864. You have to have another keypad hooked up for programming though.
I have installed a few PC1832's and I will be replacing my PC5015 (upgrade of a 5010) with the 1832. I really like some of the new features on it.
THANKS! The set up would be two touch screens (main entrance and bedroom) if the panel could handle it and a regular keypad at the side entrance. I was looking at the pc1832 it looks like a nice panel. I will probally not do this until at least the new year so maybe I will wait to check out the PK5590CL Hey does DSC have software similer to ademco's compass?
yes and no, you need a 1200 or 2400 baud modem and not all of them will work. I know Hayes will because that's what I have. The problem arises when you try to buy a new one from Staples or someplace, you will get some pretty strange looks if you ask for a 1200 baud modem these days. But fortunately DSC has plenty for sale. If you have a modem that communicates with Ademco the chances are great that it will communicate with DSC. My Hayes will work with both systems.
You can download the software if you have permission to get to DSC's expanded site. If not you have to apply for it and it takes a couple of days to get approved.
I also am building a new house and have been a DSC fan for about 13 years now and have installed multiple systems. I was looking at the PK5590CL a few months ago, information was available. Seemed DSC was having multiple problems with them and pulled them. I talked to a tech at the Home Security Store about them, they weren't going to offer them until they were more reliable. If I remember correctly just the keypad was to run $****. I am now leaning towards the 6270.
You can direct-connect to the Power series panels with your laptop's (or other computer's) serial port and the appropriate cable. Heck, if you install a TL250D board (only works with the Power864 and up, though), you can access the panel as part of your home network over Ethernet.
My goals for later this year (after DSC releases some of their new hardware): One of the new touch-screen keypads, a TL250D, and upgrade the panel as well.
Didn't know I work with security stuff as well as phones, did you? ;-) Ask me about the Hirsch DigiTrac access-control systems. I've interfaced our M8 with our alarm panel to control arm/disarm.

I don't expect the DSC touch screen to be a big seller, it's release date has been delayed more than once, and just a warning be sitting down when you hear the price.
