I am thinking about replacing the security system in my house. I am normally a Honeywell/Ademco guy and I am most familiar with their systems, but after reading so many positives notes about DSC I am considering them as well. I like the Honeywell touch screen keypads (6270) and would like to use a touch screen, DSC shows one on their home page but I can not find much info on it.
Does anyone have a model number for the DSC touch screen, also what panels do they work with, and most importantly how well do they work? Thanks

I think I see what you are talking about on that page but I can't find anything like it anywhere.

I even looked at the PowerPoint presentations and didn't find it.

It's a PK5590CL.

I went to a sales seminar late in the summer on DSC's three new panels and they had a touch screen hooked up for demoing. I really liked it, want one myself. It seemed to work lighter on the touch and the graphics were better than the Ademco.

They said it was being released late fall/early winter. Last time I checked (about 2 weeks ago), it wasn't available yet.

It will only work on the new panels, PC1616, PC1832, and PC1864. You have to have another keypad hooked up for programming though.

I have installed a few PC1832's and I will be replacing my PC5015 (upgrade of a 5010) with the 1832. I really like some of the new features on it.

THANKS! The set up would be two touch screens (main entrance and bedroom) if the panel could handle it and a regular keypad at the side entrance. I was looking at the pc1832 it looks like a nice panel. I will probally not do this until at least the new year so maybe I will wait to check out the PK5590CL

Yes, and as a matter of fact I find it easier to use.

yes and no, you need a 1200 or 2400 baud modem and not all of them will work. I know Hayes will because that's what I have. The problem arises when you try to buy a new one from Staples or someplace, you will get some pretty strange looks if you ask for a 1200 baud modem these days. [Linked Image from web.tiscali.it] But fortunately DSC has plenty for sale.
If you have a modem that communicates with Ademco the chances are great that it will communicate with DSC. My Hayes will work with both systems.
