Recently a buddy of mine was asking about getting a "professional" camera system installed at his business for monitoring purposes. A week before, I recieved a mailer with info on a Panasonic Dealer Program. Since I dont normally do security, I threw it out. Well now I need some info and would really like to help out my friend in getting this accompished. Can anyone recommend a basic system capable of handling up to 12 cameras and has a user friendly interface. When I say "proffesional" I mean not the cheapest but something basic to mid-range that someone could reccommend and would be good to learn on. Thanks in advance for the input. Mike

Proudly serving Canada from coast to coast.
I am not a CCTV person either but over the last year, I installed one CCTV system in one of our buildings and have started a second one. It is definitely a learning process. But fairly easy to understand & get involved in.
But I have had very good success with Video-Insight Video Server, it is a DVR card you purchase to install in a computer/server. (https://www.video-insight.com) Not the cheapest thing on the market, and definitely not the most expensive thing!
I've found a place to purchase decent cameras as well. PM me and I'll send you a link there, I'll be glad to discuss it with you further as well.
Panasonic net cams are great. Each can have SD card up to 2 gig, for many apps you would need no recorder, each cam records it's own to sd card. Pan tilt and digital zoom also w/audio. if you need monthe of recording come with 16 cam software. Wireless also.
This is from a DSC security system installer from South America. The advise that I can give you is to buy a simple desktop computer and install video capture cards from GEO Vision. It'll cost you less that a 1K. I install GEO Vision DVR's, PELCO systems and QUADRIX.
Thanks for the replies everybody! Im looking at all the suggestions and have started to gather more info from the manufacturers.I'm leaning toward getting a desktop PC with a video capture card. That would eliminate a high cost multiplexer with a dvr right? Would it record right to the hard drive and be able to burn on a DVD if needed? Im a newbie when it comes to designing and setting up a system from scratch but have installed many cameras and RG-59.
Well I just got off the phone with my friend that wanted this system installed in his store. It turns out he went to a convention in Vegas and saw a system from Eyeson. He says he spent about 12 grand for it(16 camers setup) and its "high end". Anyone heard of them?
anthonyh I had a company bid aginst me on a camara job and there price was so out there that thew customer thought it was crazy. I had it all together for half the price labor and all. She call the other company and they told her they forgot to include labor in there bid so it took there's from 4 times higher than mine to almost 6 times higher than my bid. What a laugh
