Hopefully I am on the right board thread. First, I have heard great things about the Logitech 890 remote, as far as IR distance and user friendliness is concerned. Anyone care to share their experiences with it? Secondly, I was totally bummed when the HDMI IN port of the brand new Samsung HT-Q80 (home theater in a box) did not output audio from a brand new DirectTV HD-DVR HDMI port yesterday. I had three levels of tech support at Samsung troubleshoot to no avail, and also spoke to DirectTV techs (worthless and obviously reading from a script). I thought one setting may be causing the issue but now I have to send the whole unit back. I like this unit because it has HDMI IN and HDMI OUT. We already had the speakers mounted. Oh well.

Have you tried connected something else to it like a dvd player with HDMI, I have had all sorts of trouble using direct tv's hd boxs with HDMI. I actually had to switch back to component video with mine since it just kept cutting out. When I used my DVD player no trouble at all.
Asd far as the Harmony, I like them , I have the 670 and the 880 both if which work very well. I have not used the 890 yet but from what I understand it is basically the 880 with rf.
I Swear I did not touch anything

Thanks for the info Anthony, theoretically, I could use Toslink digital audio into the Samsung HTIB, and use the HDMI to go directly to the plasma TV. Hopefully that would work. Since the DIRECTTV HDMI is only going to deliver video to the TV anyway. They'll both be digital interfaces, so there should be no sync problem. Then I can use the HDMI out of the Samsung for DVD playing. Whatever plasma we get will have two HDMI in. It's such a time-consuming hassle to send the Samsung box back.

Your HDMI is not producing audio because somewhere along the lines one of the components is detected as not HDCP. This is basically a digital copyright protection; the real problem lies in pointing out which device is cutting the audio signal; DTV, Receiver (amp), or TV. I have gone round and round with this and ultimately you will need to use the optical or coaxial for audio. However most newer equipment should not have this problem
Try plugging in a DVD to the HDMI and check if you are getting both.
I use the 890 and it’s a little archaic to program, plus you have to have an internet connection. The RF feature is nice especially if you do not have line of sight.
Anthony, HDCP is also the culprit to your HDMI shutting down.

Thanks Rusty - good diagnosis and probably correct. I hope the HDMI out on the Samsung HTIB works!
