So let me see if I got this
Take the mic, plug it into a channel on the mixer, take the output of the mixer to a line input on the receiver...sounds to me like it would work.
Not all mixers have preamps built in though.

Hmmm, well it looks like I spoke too soon. Seems Shure doesn't make that little inexpensive mixer that I was thinking about. So we go to RDL. ST-MX-2 Only other thing you will need is a little plug-in wall wart power supply. 24VDC/60Ma. -Hal

Hal, we have two 4 channel Shure Prologue mixers at work. That might be what you are thinking of.
