afternoon-
we have had two voice grade landlines on our fire alarm panel for 10 years. now we're getting comm errors, alarm guy says telco changed something. telco says, voice grade lines, all within spec. many years ago i did have to order lines that were a step above, thought they were called a-lines or something. anyone have any input they can share?

thanx

Sounds like they put those lines on pair gain or some other digital transport method. Your's is a common problem when that happens- faxes and modems won't reliably work if at all.

I think what your "step above" lines were were trunks. They have a guaranteed minimum loss but that's not something that is going to help you unless they don't use any kind of digital conversion.

SWB used to offer a "Conditioned" POTS line for high speed data. It was guaranteed to transport 1200 BAUD!(WOW) It would usually handle 9600. I ordered 2 while I was working in Salina,KS.

And now I know why I moved to NC. At 8:30PM last night Dec 09, 2009, it was 3, that's three, degrees Farenheit in Salina. At 9:30 (same actual time) in Fayetteville about 60 degrees Farenheit. smile So, Bill, what was it doing in Nebraska?

One of our CO techs might know for sure, but I think you can still get a conditioned line.

In answer to your question too darn cold.
