I'm in the market for a simple security system. So I figured I would ask if anyone can recommend something to me. A system that I can install myself would be ideal. My requirements are this.
1. I don't want monthly central station monitoring fees. I'm cheap. 2. The system must be able to either call my cell phone when an alarm is present or send a text message, email, etc. Something that can connect to the internet would probably work fine but I'm ok if it just calls me too. 3. It must be able to do both wired and wireless sensors. For example. I want the 3 door sensors to be wireless, but the inside motion senors and keypad can be wired.
Thanks.

A Honeywell lynx system is worth looking into. Or a Vista 20P. IF you go the vista route your going to need a dialer to have it call you. They do have an internet communicator but that is getting outside the scope of DIY. They also offer a vista 21IP but again that starts to get outside the scope of DIY.
For fast and easy Lynx offers up to 48 wireless zones, 1 hardwired. keypad, and dialer are all built into the unit

Merrit, I agree, the alarm just gives me time open the safe and drop in the clip (little one running around can't keep that stuff in the open) safty first!
