I was called in by a national for my first time with them. wo said lines cut, please repair. Well, I had to call to get more info. Anyway, I am here, I found out the employee had crossed two lines with each other hearing dialtone, with phone recording heard at same time. Got that rectified and also, x31 bissket box had pins bent inside. So, which pair, goes to alarm and which pair goes to fire?

I have alarm red/black pair one hooked up aniced the line and it was alarm according to the demark info. Line two is fire, yellow black.

This is for a moose z2000 alarm panel/board

Thanks

I figured out the wiring on the 31x bisket box. I had the alarm tested and the monitoring center got the signal it was tripped. There is also a separate fire line going to the panel and it was working but, not tested.

Anyone have frustrations with nationals, where they did not communicate the right information..or hardly anything at all?

they expect that when you accept the job you have at least basic knowledge like how a RJ31x works and is wired .

skip, that may be the case, but was never informed it was alarm wire. It was never in my job discription to do wiring for alarms. I was a new infrastructure installer in the past for phones and lan. So this is new.

BTW, if I do not get a reply to this extended thread, would there be any reason why the fire alarm panel dial out line be terminated to the same rj31 jack as the regular security trunk line?

Is it possible it was a mistake on the employee on terminating it to the same jack, and instead, a new dial out line should have been run to the fire alarm panel?

After looking over the specs of the rj31 jack, the incomming dial line is terminated on the first pair, but if there was a phone to use this same line, it would have been terminated on the last pair. Well, the fire line was originally terminated on this pair, which would have explained why I was getting cross dial tones and co recorded messages.

I had the alarm panel line tested with the monitoring office. The monitoring operator said they received the trip signal when I set off the alarm for testing purposes.

finally after contacting the owner of the site, who was sick on the day I originally came in to do the repairs, he informed me that century link visited the site two or three times for the original trouble ticket. First technician said it was a issue from the street to the demark. Second technician went to where the line was cut and made the repairs and made the comment "I think it was terminated right"

This would explain why it was terminated incorrectly getting crossed signal at the rj31 jack.
