LOL funny discount! I have been looking for the amplifier for this thing for a while, but may just end up building something from a solid state amp. The transmitting units I have use round on/off buttons and the speakers are self contained amplifiers to listen to the line. Might be two different generations of speakerphones as I didn't see them on the website given. BTW does anyone actually pay that much for them anymore..LOL?

In thinking about the item you have there ,i dont think its a speaker phone

I think its an item called an Orator and i think they were used for voice announcement from a dial intercom.

The 4a speaker phone # ed referenced above and
the picture on the web site were those items .
I dont think they changed from the first to the last day.

In walks the senior citizen.......

The Orator (ITT's name for it) was a simple one-way amplifier and speaker that could be connected to any tip/ring connection. It was frequently connected to the receiver leads for the handset on a phone so when turned on, others in the room could hear the conversation. It could also be connected directly to a CO line.

Tone Commander and Valcom had a version of this same speaker (it looks like they bought them from ITT and modified them) to work with their hands-free intercom system in the early 1980's.

Believe it or not, we recently connected about eight of these for a telemarketing company to simple 2500 sets so that training could be done. I didn't realize that these things are still so popular!

Which unit did they use on "Charlie's Angels?" You know, the speaker sat on Bosley's desk and Charlie's voice came through it! :toothy:

The WE speakerphone with the little round buttons is a 3A. It preceded the 4A and used a 55B control unit. The 4A compacted everything into the speaker and used a rockerswitch transmitter. I have a number of 4A units, but I don't have the adapter blocks that handle the special amphenol connectors. I have both WE and Premiere units. They are cosmetically identical, but you can't mix/match a Premiere unit with a WE unit, but you can use them on any 1a2 phones.

Welcome to our assylum, Michael. Sit back, hold on tightly and enjoy the ride.

I have worked with a bunch of the 4A & B equipment around but none of the 3A. I know exactly the one you described, but it's from way before my time. I have only seen 3A in old catalogs, movies, TV shows and magazines.

I did not know that Premier (Sprint North Supply's house brand) made these. I have a little bit of Precision Component's (PCI) 4B stuff still around on the shelf. Are Premier and PCI the same?

By the way, when you get a chance, please fill out your complete profile if you will be staying around. We like to know who we are helping or humoring and hopefully, not insulting.

Again, welcome aboard!
