I was just about to mention this a few days ago but while the company was contemplating bankrupcy, NASDAC was threatening to delist there stock because it was junk status at under a dollar a share. It may happen. So what was the cause of Nortel to loose so much market share ?
Or was there another cause?

Possibly competing against import labor, among other things. Possibly cut research to keep profits up, too. I'm sure it will all come out, if they file. john C.

I have a 1st cousin that had been with them for 27 years in Raleigh NC doing R&D. He got a pink slip the first week of December "08".

Was he close to Retirement? Seems they would give him some kind of severance or something.

It is really a shame that the leading carrier class switch maker in Canada and the leading switch maker in the US (Lucent) never quite recovered from getting "stiffed" by all those fly-by-night so called "phone companies" that all went belly-up in the tech bust of 2000-2001. Now France (Alcatel)owns what used to be the pride of the US (formerly Bell Labs). Companies like Winstar and Teligent et al bought billions of dollars worth of switches and then gave them back. It's tough to recover from that. Nortel will probably do another reverse split to bolster their stock price. The government of Canada can't let them go under - or can they?

I worked for Winstar and ICG. I got laid off from both of them because of a reduction in force. Each had a 5E at their locations. I made good money while it lasted. It took me over a year to find work after getting laid off by ICG...
