An independent buying an RBOC? I know the Bell legacy is a distant thing of the past, but when will it end? UNBELIEVABLE

When will it end?
I think it’s a pretty safe bet that it won’t end until there are only three LECs remaining. at&t (<-- little “a,â€Â) Verizon and what ever name CenturyTel/Link-Qwest name turns out to be.
All of the three, in order to survive will be buying up cable and/or satellite television providers to help diversify their products.
I don’t think Judge Green saw this coming 30 years ago huh?
Look out Fair Point, Frontier, Windstream, etc...

But who would purchase Fairpoint? Verizon wanted to get out of the states of Maine, New Hampshire & Vermont so they sold the territories to Fairpoint. Of the "Big 3", at&t would seem to be the only one that makes any sense. Even then....at&t would be isolated because Massachusetts & most of New York are Verizon territories (for now).

Quest, isn't that old Useless W... er, U.S. West? If so, Century/Link may be stepping into a big POS, unless Quest has turned their maintanance program around, Big Time! John C.

"....unless Quest has turned their maintenance program around"
That's a good one.
When a REPAIR FOREMAN doesn't know how a Multi-Line Hunt group works, their maintenance program still leaves a great deal to be desired.
They no longer keep records on aerial cables, and I seriously doubt they are maintaining their air pressure either.
Around here, the vendor reliability changes from day to day with any and/or all of them, but Qwest has impressed me the least.
It's not 1983 any more, and no, Judge Green had no idea of the snakes he was plowing up.
But, the big bad phone monopoly got broken up, just like the _____________ wanted it to be.

My dad worked for a telephone coop in Montana. Although it is because of the breakup that I probably have a job, I agree it was a bad deal for the consumers. My dad told me that AT&T would kick back a percentage of fees to all the local telecos. The small company my dad worked for provided free repair service to all its customers until the break up. Now on the flip side, the LD rates have come down quite a bit.
